Fun For All!
We plan to have a wonderful street dance festival for the weekend of Friday August 13th to Sunday August 15th 2010, thus bringing a brand new festival to Enniscorthy with the aim of including all age groups from 2 to 102 and bringing a sense of community and joy to the town. This festival aims to include all cultures and community groups, families including children, parents and grandparents, uncles and aunts, young and not so young in a bright new venture for Enniscorthy. We aim to provide something for everyone over this weekend including many different dance types, an amazing light show, drum and dance workshops and dances galore to suit all tastes.
Happy & Colourful Festival!
Street Rhythms Dance Fest is the dream child of a few enthusiastic local visionaries who were looking at Enniscorthy from Vinegar Hill last summer and had the idea of creating a happy and colourful festival for the town through dance. The many dance acts both national and international will bring colour and an electric atmosphere to the streets and dance workshops for participants and visitors will bring another dimension to the town. The streets will be decorated with bunting, flags and flowers to bring colour and atmosphere with street performers adding to the atmosphere and providing a lively backdrop to the event.
Watch, Learn, Engage & Dance!
There will be many performers at the various venues all day where the public can view and interact with them easily. We will be trying to encourage as many as possible to participate and join in the fun either with the performers on the street or through workshops at various locations. Dance venues will be spread out all over the town to include everyone. We will have a marquee in the Showgrounds to host dances and workshops and live dancing performances on stage at Market Square.
Dance is a way of rising up into space, of discovering new dimensions while still remaining in touch with your body. When you dance, the spiritual world and the real world manage to coexist quite happily. I think classical dancers dance on pointes because they’re simultaneously touching the earth and reaching up to the skies.
